Andy Murray's Successor

I know that the world moves quickly in the 21st century, but after about six months of Andy Murray's senior career some are already picking out his successor.

Poor Murray has gone from unknown, to hot tip, to rising star, to household name to old news, all in less than a year.

I am, of course, exaggerating a little, but it's hard to read the story of ten year old Jonny O'Mara without a touch of scepticism mixed in with a healthy dollop of admiration.

"I want to be just like Andy," says Jonny. "He has got Scottish grit, and I know that because I have played with him. On court he's a bit feisty, but off court he is great. Nothing is going to stop me. I am not a loser at all."

Perhaps I should hedge my bets and register jonnyomaranews.com now.

  • As the "next Andy Murrays" dad, though Jonny prefers to see himself as the first Jonny O'mara,I think you should register it-he's pretty good! Seriously, it is not something I would have said myself but the article has probably served its purpose in generating some publicity that may allow us to get some little help with sponshorship etc as being based in Scotland is not ideal for playing in the bigger tournaments, the majority based down south. TennisScotland are pretty darn good at helping and I thank them and if we even approach the early success of Andy I will be delighted-its a long road!

  • Thanks for your comment, Jonny's Dad.

Hope you have some success with sponsorship. Why don't you get Jonny to setup his own blog? It might help generate some interest and it could be quite nice in about 10 years to look back and review Jonny's progress.

Let me know if you need any help, I'll be glad to assist.

    Best wishes,
