Andy Murray Withdraws from Barcelona - Open Seat 2007

UPDATE: Jamie Murray and Eric Butorac are guest bloggers on the ATP website at the moment and Jamie was kind enough to share some news on Andy Murray.

"he injured some facet joints and should be good to go for Estoril."

The Estoril Open is the first week in May so it sounds like the back injury isn't too serious. Good news all round.

It's not a great surprise to see Murray withdrawing from Barcelona, but there's been no word yet, unofficial or otherwise, as to how long the back injury will need to be rested.

It's frustrating on the one hand, as this is the longest spell without seeing Murray play since the close season. The up side is that we can be fairly confident now that Murray won't return until he's fully fit.

Withdrawing from Monte Carlo did no affect Murray's number ten position. Berdych moved up two places to 12th, but is still 215 points behind Murray. Haas stays 20 points behind Murray and - along with Berdych - doesn't appear to playing in Barcelona or Casablanca.

Murray has 15 points from Barcelona 2006 that he will lose but, because his fifth best ATP result in the last year was 75pts from Newport, this won't affect his ranking points total or his position. I'll keep an eye on it but, unless I've missed something, Murray should still be a top ten player next Monday.
